Therapy for Couples

Couples Counselling That Rebuilds Connection, Not Just Communication

Many couples come to therapy not because they don’t love each other — but because something deeper is blocking their ability to feel close, safe, or understood.

Whether you’re dealing with frequent conflict, emotional distance, betrayal, or life transitions, couples therapy at Jordan Gross Counselling helps you reconnect from the inside out. We go beyond surface solutions to support real emotional healing and lasting change.

My Approach to Couples Therapy

I support couples in moving beyond surface-level communication tools and into deeper healing — where lasting change actually takes root.

IFS (Internal Family Systems)
-to explore and unburden protective parts that influence how we show up in relationships

IFIO (Intimacy from the Inside Out)
-a specialized couples therapy model rooted in IFS, helping partners reconnect with compassion, clarity, and courage

EMDR-Informed Therapy
-to gently process unresolved relational and attachment trauma that may be driving reactive cycles

How the Couples Therapy Process Works

Whether you’re new to therapy or returning after trying other approaches, here’s what you can expect when working with us:

Step 1: Optional Free Consultation

You’re welcome to book a free 15-minute consult to ask questions, share what’s bringing you in, and see if we’re the right fit.

Step 2: First Joint Session (50 minutes)

We begin with a 50-minute joint session to understand your relationship, goals, and what’s getting in the way of connection. This session gives each partner space to share their experience in a supportive, non-blaming environment.

Step 3: Recommended Individual Sessions

To support deeper healing, we often recommend individual sessions for each partner. These help address personal patterns, past trauma, or emotional blocks that are affecting the relationship.

Each of you may be matched with a trusted therapist on my team, and we’ll work together in a collaborative care model — making sure your individual growth supports your relationship goals.

Step 4: Ongoing Joint Sessions

We continue with joint sessions to help you both:

-Understand and shift the patterns that create distance or conflict
-Rebuild emotional safety and trust
-Learn new ways of relating that feel aligned and supportive
-Integrate the healing that happens in individual work

This process is paced to meet your unique needs and goals.

Step 5: Integration

As things begin to shift, we support you in practicing what you’ve learned and sustaining a deeper connection outside of therapy. We can also offer check-ins or maintenance sessions as needed.

Is Couples Therapy Right for You?

Couples seek therapy for all kinds of reasons — but often, it’s not about fixing a broken relationship. It’s about finding a way back to each other when things feel blocked, tense, or disconnected.
You might benefit from couples therapy if:
You feel more like roommates than partners
You’re stuck in painful, repeating patterns
One or both of you feel unseen, alone, or emotionally exhausted
There’s been a breach of trust or infidelity
You’re navigating parenting stress or life transitions
Past trauma is showing up in your relationship
You've tried self-help or previous therapy, but the same issues keep returning
